SCG supports future Engineers

Our 2021 Support and
Mentoring Program Group

SCG is proud to announce that we are participating in the 2021 program as an Industry Sponsor and Mentor. Our project will offer University of Melbourne students’ exposure to an industry project
for innovation, assessment and training.

The program‘s main objective is to “promote an understanding of leadership in innovation for engineers” and as training in innovative project resolution for mentors to promote leadership, growth and confidence.

SCG Mechanical Engineer, Navarr van Dyk, will undertake leadership training under the program and will act as a Mentor to a small group of students facing an innovative project that proposes challenges.

The exciting innovation project is “Making use of Recycled Plastics - Starting with Sleepers”. Early work has already been done in this
area and the challenge is to further engineer recycled plastic as a replacement material to timber, concrete, steel etc , as engineered recycled plastic products. Issues include IP protection, plastic recycling, sustainable supply of recycled plastics, recycling issues (State and Federal Govt regulations banning export of plastic waste), standards that don’t exist for engineered plastic products etc

SCG is a long time supporter of engineering students & graduates and we are excited to be able to support this program in partnership with the University of Melbourne.
